    Imported from Columbia

Along with passion fruit and maracuja, the granadilla belongs to the passion fruit family. There are as many as 200 varieties in circulation, but these three are the most common in shops. The granadilla is by far the least known. This round to oval fruit can be recognised by its orange, but also green or yellow, skin. Compared with the well-known passionfruit, the taste is slightly sweeter.

The hard shell of the granadilla is inedible. The deliciously sweet flesh is gelatinous, with black edible seeds. The granadilla owes its name to the Spaniards. They initially mistook the South American fruit for a small pomegranate.

Their taste has been described as sweet and sour but they are in general sweeter
than passion fruit. Their flesh is gelatinous and watery with black edible seeds.

    PREPARATION

Granadilla can be consumed fresh out of hand. The brittle rind can be sliced or broken in half by hand, and the pulp can be scooped with a spoon and eaten raw. In addition, you can add it in your fruit salad and to make juice or smoothies.
